In controlled experiments involving food containers, female dogs consistently preferred humans who demonstrated skill and efficiency. When given a choice, the females chose the competent person in 83 percent of trials, while avoiding individuals who failed the task. Male dogs, however, showed no strong preference, suggesting a key behavioral difference between the sexes.
