three religions walk into apocalypse bar, catholics just vibe
We are living in an era when Shia Muslims, ruling Iran, believe their life’s purpose is to hasten the coming of the Mahdi (a Muslim messianic figure). Simultaneously, we are living in an era when the prime minister of Israel believes his life’s purpose is to hasten the coming of the Talmudic Messiah, or what Christians call the Antichrist. Simultaneously, we are living in an era when a large number of Evangelical Protestants in the United States, called “Christian Zionists,” believe that it is their life’s purpose to help that process along. The only group of religious people who seem to be remotely sane are the Roman Catholics, Mainline Protestants and Eastern Orthodox, who say the real Messiah is Jesus Christ, he already came once, and he won’t come back until he’s good and ready, in his timing not ours.
