UK economy SHRINKS by 0.1% as Rachel Reeves falls short of growth target The UK's gross domestic product (GDP) rate is estimated to have shrank by an unrevised 0.1 per cent in the month of October, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This comes after a 0.1 per cent fall in growth for September, and flat growth in August as Chancellor Rachel Reeves struggled to kickstart growth in the economy for much of Q3. GDP measures the value of goods and services produced in the UK, estimating the size of the economy and its growth. Rachel Reeves said at the start of the year, “low growth is not our destiny, but that economic growth will not come without a fight.“Britain is a country of huge potential. “That’s what our Plan for Change is about. It’s what drives me as Chancellor, and it is what I’m determined to deliver.” The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) previously said that a slowing in productivity, partly due to a drop in the number of workers coming to the UK, meant “momentum is softening” in the economy.
